Question 9: Third Valve slide

This question deals with features of the third valve slide other than the water key which was previously addressed.

The third valve slide has and adjustable push-rod or a bracket for one.

This applies to most Olds trumpets and some cornets. The adjustable push rod is inserted into a bracket with a set screw and is used to extend the third valve slide for tuning some notes. Sometimes this push rod may have become separated from the instrument, but if there is a bracket on part of the slide that moves, then select this option.

The push rod is missing from this Ambassador, but the bracket is on the part of the slide that can be removed from the body of the trumpet.

Spring loaded trigger

Typically only found on the Recording and Mendez models, both trumpet and cornet.

There is no method for adjusting the third valve slide.

Some early models as well as several cornet models have a third valve slide that cannot be adjusted. These models may have a bracket on the end of the slide, but it is for inserted a lyre and not for the use of a push rod.

This Studio cornet has a bracket, but it is not located on the removable part of the slide. This bracket is for a lyre and not a push rod.
