Fullerton

Question 7 Other features

Different Olds models had features that sometimes changed within model lines over the years. These are some unique features that some trumpets and cornets had during the Fullerton era.

Third slide stop rod

The Olds Super Star model and some Super models had a stop rod that was located under the third valve slide.

Other models, including some Studio and Special model trumpets and cornets had a stop rod that was located between the two slide tubes on the third valve slide.

Main tuning slide brace

Most Olds models did not have a brace on the main tuning slide. The Recording trumpet is the model that had this feature, but it is possible that others may have had this feature at different times or as a custom modification from the factory.

Stop Screw on first valve slide

Some professional models in the 1960’s and 1970’s had a stop screw on the first valve slide. The screw keeps the slide from coming all the way out when used for tuning.

Stop screw on third valve slide.

Similar to the stop screw on the first valve slide, some professional models had this same stop screw on the third valve slide. In most cases, if an instrument had this feature, it had both stop screws, but there may be cases where only one was provided.
